Sky's 3D Channel

Back in October 2010 (wow, four months ago!), Sky launched their 3D channel to their residential customers. At the launch Sky said they were hoping to sign up between 50,000 and 200,000 subscribers by mid-2011.

In a press release distributed earlier today, Sky said they'd already reach 70,000 subscribers, which is hugely impressive considering that the Sky 3D channel is "free" but only if you subscribe to their "top of the line" Sky World package at £62.25 per month (price is correct at time of writing). Sky claim that "around half" of all the 3D TV's sold in the UK are signed up to Sky 3D!

Sky have really grabbed 3D in both hands since we live blogged about the first ever English Premier League match to be shown in pubs in 3D just over a year ago. They are fast approaching their 100th live sports broadcast shown in 3D and have also shown film blockbusters like the world TV premieres of Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and the Toy Story trilogy in 3D.
